CHARACTER AI — Dive into Surprisingly Human Conversations with AI

What if you could create an AI character and chat with them as if they really existed? This is what Character.AI offers, an artificial intelligence application that transforms the user experience into a true interactive roleplaying game. What Exactly is Character AI?

Character.AI is a conversational platform based on artificial intelligence, founded by two former Google engineers, Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas, both of whom worked on the LaMDA project. The goal: to allow users to create and converse with ultra-realistic AI characters, capable of imitating a tone, personality, and even a life story.

Unlike other tools centered on a single avatar, here you can create as many AI characters as you want, each with their own characteristics, artificial voice, and behaviors.

Creating Your Own Character: Simple, Powerful, and Creative

The platform offers a freemium model that allows you to create your characters for free. You define:

• Their name, history, personality, way of speaking
• An artificial voice (if you want to enable voice calls)
• And whether the character will be public (visible and usable by all) or private (for your personal sessions)

It's a great tool if you like storytelling, writing novels, or even just having fun with fictional personalities.

A Chat Platform... and Mind-Blowing Voice Calls

The first image shows a conversation in French with one of the characters I created. The purpose of this discussion was to explore whether the AI understood its context.

Once your AI character is created, you access a discussion interface very similar to ChatGPT's. But where Character.AI stands out is in its voice call function.

You can literally call your AI and talk with them as if you were talking to a real person. And this is where the experience becomes mind-blowing:

• It can recognize your accent or origins, even if you speak another language very well

The AI also allows you to record your own voice and assign it to a character, offering the possibility to create an AI version of yourself.

Less Avatar, More Immersion

Unlike Replika AI, Character.AI doesn't offer animated 3D characters. Everything happens in text (or voice), making the experience visually lighter but auditorily more intense.

This is also what makes the exchanges more natural: the artificial voice is adapted, realistic, and the responses are not predictable.
